Potential Mistakes

Problem: Where would I be able to manufacture – where could I send it to be created?

Solution: I could look around, ask around, research where to find a place that would do that.

Problem: What if there is no place that could manufacture it – what if it is too difficult to find one?

Solution: I could potentially, if all else fails, create them myself from clear laptop cases with the image printed / crafted on to the case.

Problem: How much time will it take to create? How many people do I need to supply at one time? How much time do I have?

Solution: Once more people start making orders, I could ask friends to help (and pay them) or I could employ other people looking for jobs.

Marketing Plan

1) Idea for a partner – who/what shares the same values as you?

RedBubble is a potential partner, but a far stretch and a likely false hope. Officeworks would work well, and is a possible manufacturing option. I need a partner who sells products online, with different designs. Officeworks would be ideal for the cases themselves, whereas RedBubble has all the experience with selling the artists’ work as different products.

2) Product – aesthetic, packaging, shipping, weight, choices

On the site, it would show what the product looks like (in this case, a mug, cup, watch, or laptop case with the chosen design imprinted on it.) It would be packaged carefully, making sure that it is well protected. The shipping would be to anywhere – USA, UK, Europe, Asia – but to start with, I would stick with Australia. It would weigh the usual weight of a product. A laptop case would not be much, a watch hardly anything, and a mug or cup maybe a little bit more. The choices for designs are pretty much the main point of this site.

3) Price – comparable products, production costs

Still researching

4) Position – low, mid, high end – connect to target market

I think leaning towards the mid / high end. It would be a reasonable / good quality, but the price (including shipping) may be a bit expensive for some. However, it is helping the artists survive and create more options for designs.

5) Promotion – how are you going to promote your product to your target market?

Through other artists, as stated in the ‘communication strategies.’

Communication Strategies

Target Market

People who have laptops and want a personally designed case for it, or they want more options for mugs, cups, watches, etc. Artists might not buy anything, but they would also be paid for every product they sell.

Message Motivation

My product is a combination of emotional, rational and moral. It would appeal to customers that would see a nice piece of artwork and want to buy it as a mug or watch. It would be practical for someone in need of laptop protection or an easy way to check the time. It would also help artists who are in need of money in order to live their daily lives.

Media Type

Instagram and YouTube are my first options to help me advertise my product. Instagram would be good, and I could possibly broadcast it from there, but YouTube if preferable. I could show other artists, and if they wished to use it, they would let their followers know and link them to it. I am assuming that if this happened, it would be quite like how they let their subscribers know they have art for sale on RedBubble. Instagram does work in this case, where artists who thrive there can let their followers know they have a new piece of art up on the new “DesignerRipple”.

The Face of Your Message

Artists, mainly. They make profit from this as well, and would feel the need to broadcast it themselves if they wanted to earn money.

Strategic Planning – SWOT Analysis – Still adding on to

Strengths:

– Offers options that other sites do not

– Recognisable

Weaknesses:

– Getting it out there

Opportunities

– No other easily accessible place to buy designed / customisable laptop cases

– Recognised as the site where you can actually get hard cover laptop cases

– Once it does get out there, it could potentially be quite a big success.

Threats

– Other similar sites, such as RedBubble

– The two sites could work as “what one does not have, the other does”

– It could forever lie in RedBubble’s, or other sites’ shadows.

My Mission Statement

With this site, I promise to allow artists their freedom in selling their art as other items. I also promise that copyright will be taken care of. Stolen or traced art can be reported, but proof that the original piece is in fact the original piece must be provided. I promise that the customers will be able to buy the artist’s work as one of our items. Shipping will be included in the price at the checkout, and a detailed description of the order will be provided. Artists will be taxed a small percentage with each purchase of their pieces, but only with a maximum of 3% (this percentage will vary over time with new experiences.) My site will also offer an easy way to sell and buy commissions without needing a PayPal account or link.

My Entrepreneurial Idea

My entrepreneurial idea was a clear/glass box in which a book or device can be contained. It would be designed so that even if you were submerged in water – a bath, shower, pool, spa – you can keep whatever is in the box dry.

My entrepreneurial idea is a site that allows artists to upload their work, for others to buy it as phone/IPad cases and wallets, but mainly as laptop hard cases. It can also be sold as cups/mugs, clocks, watches, stickers, or purses.

INCLUDED BONUS – Artists can sell commissions here, too, WITHOUT needing a PayPal account.

It is desirable because you may like an artist’s work, and wish you could take it with you, or wish you had it as something else. With my product, the site, you can find things suited to you. A piece of art you would love to have as a purse, a laptop case, a watch, you can have.

It is unique because it would function like RedBubble, but it would offer a few more and less options. RedBubble has a great extent of products, but it does not have laptop hard cases. It also does not have watches or purses. From my own research, I have found that it is hard to obtain these objects with a customised design. My product would allow artists to also make profit off of these items.

It will add value to the customers’ lives because they would be able to have their own choice of laptop case designs, not just the design of a skin that offers no protection or a sleeve that cannot permanently remain covering the laptop. They would also have their own design of not just a clock, but of a watch to put on their wrist. And not just a bag, but a purse to carry with them wherever they need to go.

What is an Entrepreneur?

An entrepreneur is someone who starts or runs a company or business. Someone who wants to change the way things are. There is no age requirement to be an entrepreneur. You could be 12, or you could be 83. It does not matter. All you need is a vision of what you want to achieve.

An entrepreneur would need to be organised, persistent, and optimistic but not hopeful. Of course, hope is something you should have, but to rely on it would be stupid. Being organised is crucial in order to be successful. You need to make sure everything is going to plan and prepare for any possible problems. You need to be persistent, as the chances of it selling well the first time aren’t particularly high. With persistence and perseverance, however, your business could be a success.

Term 2 Week 7

The key frames / sketch or test animation has been completed for every scene. I haven’t checked to see how long the animation goes for, but the timing can be adjusted as some scenes will be moving pictures, rather than full animation.

Elle has been sent the key frames, but we will need to work together on the weekend for timing, placement, and use of space. For the time being, I have started to fully animate one of the environmental scenes that are meant to connect the audience with the forest, and show them the beauty that is being destroyed.

Our aim is to complete all animation by the end of this week, and complete all colour by the end of week 8. Editing should not take very long, but some scenes will need more editing than others.

Even if we haven’t finished, we will edit what we have to showcase in week 9.
